DTN COMMENTS:  Still just a few bids on the table in parts of Kansas and 
Nebraska this afternoon, but they continue to be below current asking 
prices of around $358 dressed in the North, and $232 to $233 live in the 
South. Yesterday light Northern business took place with dressed deals 
ranging from $355 to $363, mostly $358, $4 higher than last week's 
weighted average, basis Nebraska. The South remained rather quiet with 
just a handful reported sold in Kansas at $220 to $228, but not enough to 
establish an accurate trend for the week.

The just released December 1 on feed report listed 11.7 million head, down 
2% from December 2024. Placements in November totaled 1.60 million head, 
11% below last year; marketings in November totaled 1.52 million head, 12% 
less than the prior year; other disappearance in November totaled 53,000 
head, 4% under the same time last year.

Today's slaughter totaled 108,000 head, 3,000 more than last week, but 
9,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 7,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 587,000 head, 9,000 less than the previous 
week, and down 29,000 from 2024. Cattle futures closed sharply higher on 
live contracts, up 165 to 240, and significantly higher on feeder issues, 
up 407 to 532. Beef cutouts are expected to close higher, with light to 
moderate box movement.
