DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: Last week, a rather light trade was reported in the
North, with dressed deals ranging from $354 to $363, mostly $355 to $358, $2
to $4 higher than the prior week's weighted average basis Nebraska. Just a
small scattering of sales were reported sold in Kansas at $220 to mostly
$228, $2 lower than the previous week's weighted average. According to
Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated Purchase Summary reports
the weekly accumulated weighted averages were recorded as: KS
$227.03($230.00); NE $357.25($353.97); IA $357.22($352.61); TX and CO were
not available due to confidentiality. (the prior week's weighted averages are
listed in parentheses).
The Friday afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 938; NE 10,499; IA 12,620; TX and CO NA due to
confidentiality. Friday's cattle slaughter totaled 108,000 head, 3,000 more
than the prior week, but 9,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill was
estimated at 7,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 587,000 head, 9,000
less than the previous week, and down 29,000 from 2024. The weekly average
for boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $358.67(-0.70), select
$346.56(+0.72), with an average choice/select spread of $12.11(-1.42), and a
total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 590(-85), (Changes
from the prior week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending December 13, 2025, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 54,827, 100.88% of the previous week and 111.83% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks to be a typically quiet Monday with both
buyers and sellers busy taking inventory. Bids and asking prices have yet to
be established, and significant trade volume will likely be delayed until the
second half of the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with light
box movement.
