A VeraSun plant in Dyersville, Iowa, may have shut down due to lack of funding, according to reports, but so far VeraSun officials have not confirmed that.
Weather outlook for Brazil is mostly good, but dryness in the south is causing some concern. In Argentina, dry conditions are delaying planting and bringing on early-season crop stress.
Banks are being encouraged to lend, yet lawmakers and community bankers are hearing that regulators also are demanding more loan diversity. That's a challenge in rural areas that lean so heavily on agricultural loans.
The U.S. winter wheat crop in the Southern Plains has gotten good moisture at the right time and is off to a good start so far, but dry conditions for wheat in the Southern Hemisphere have been less than ideal, which may take a toll on the harvest.
The Northern Plains winter moisture will move into Iowa and Minnesota Saturday, causing some harvest delays in the area. There will also be another round of eastern Great Lakes snow.
